History
Falls County has a rich history rooted in its early Native American inhabitants, including the Tonkawa, Waco, and Comanche tribes. Permanent settlement did not begin until 1830 when nine families moved to the area due to conflicts with the Mexican government. However, these settlers were soon forced to flee as the Mexican army posed a growing threat. After Texas gained independence, they returned, but tensions with Native Americans persisted. Several violent conflicts occurred between settlers and Native tribes until peace was finally declared in 1845. In 1850, Falls County was officially established. The county grew rapidly due to the fertile land provided by the Brazos River, which made it an ideal location for agriculture. The Civil War and Reconstruction brought significant challenges, as the county’s economy heavily depended on agriculture and enslaved labor. In the early 20th century, Falls County began to recover with the expansion of the railroad system, the rise of dairy farming, and livestock ranching. Like much of the country, Falls County suffered during the Great Depression but rebounded during World War II due to increased demand for agricultural products. Technological advancements in farming led to a decline in labor needs, causing a gradual population decrease. Today, Falls County remains primarily agricultural but has introduced some economic diversification.

Falls County offers a variety of recreational activities centered around its natural beauty and historical landmarks.
