The county experienced a modest economic rebound in the latter half of the 20th century with the emergence of a small manufacturing sector and renewable energy projects. Despite these changes, Mills County remains a rural community with a population of approximately 4,500 residents, maintaining its strong agricultural roots while adapting to modern economic shifts.
